Incredible. It still throws me on a loop every time I consider 2016 in the past tense. Where did it all go?
It was a crazy year; filled with everything from the good to the better, the pitfalls to triumphs, endings to beginnings and mishaps to happiness. The completion of another school year lead to the start of another (this never-ending cycle is starting to get tedious). False hopes and second chances lead to little victories and new adventures. I did so much more than I thought I would and yet still have so much more I'd like to do. And the list goes on.
I've never been one for resolutions (as you could probably guess, I have a tough time sticking to anything concrete) but I do think that one inevitable thing I can hope for this year is continuous exploration. To grow, to discover. Whether it be within my own self or an entirely other place, city or country, I hope you and I both find something that we're looking for.
A few other things I learned last year to carry me into 2017:
- Take risks (the craziest it is the better the story).
- Things will always work out how they're supposed to in the end.
- Time manage. Whether that includes balancing your schoolwork and/or life, give yourself a day off.
- Just because it isn't happening right now doesn't mean it never will.
- Never give up. When you feel like quitting remember why you started.
Thank you to everyone who's been a part of my life thus far, whether simply in 2016 or any year prior to that. Every experience that we've shared, any imprint that you've left behind, I can guarantee it still resonates soundly with who I've become as a person and for that I thank you. I strongly believe in the idea that everything and everyone that stumbles upon our lives were meant to be there and that, whether they're still in it or not, we are all on this whirlwind of a journey to become more of the people that we are destined to become.
Remember that there is more to life out there then what lies in front of you currently. More then just the textbook that remains unopened or that part-time job you seem stuck in. There will be more people, more love and more places to experience then we could ever think possible. Cherish those moments that make you pause, stop and remind you that you are alive. That you are right here. Now. In this moment. Present. Free.
Nothing is more important than that. Here's to 2017.
